Polish Twins: A Story of Friendship, Love, and Determination The 21 Polish Twins, Róża and Emilia, were born in Kraków in 1929. They were inseparable from the moment they were born, often dressing alike and finishing each other's sentences. They were both excellent students and had a passion for sports, especially gymnastics. Their idyllic childhood was shattered when the Nazis invaded Poland in 1939. The twins and their family were rounded up and sent to the Kraków Ghetto, where they struggled to survive. Despite the constant fear and hunger, the twins refused to give up on their dreams. They started practicing gymnastics in secret, using whatever scraps of material they could find. They would spend hours perfecting their routines, hoping that one day they would be able to perform in front of a real audience. Their determination paid off when they were discovered by a former Olympic gymnast who had been imprisoned in the same camp. He recognized their talent and started training them in secret. The twins continued to practice every day, pushing themselves to be the best they could be. They knew that their passion for gymnastics was what was keeping them alive, and they refused to give up on their dreams. In 1944, the twins and their family were sent to Auschwitz. They were forced to work in the camp's factory, but they never stopped practicing their gymnastics. They knew that one day they would escape and be able to continue pursuing their dreams. Their chance finally came in 1945 when Auschwitz was liberated. The twins and their family were among the survivors, but they had lost everything. They had no home, no possessions, and no money. Despite the hardships they had endured, the twins refused to give up on their dreams. They moved to the United States and continued to practice gymnastics, eventually becoming Olympic athletes. The 21 Polish Twins became a symbol of determination and resilience, inspiring people around the world to never give up on their dreams, no matter how difficult the journey may be.
